our question

how does exposure to synthetic estrogen affect heart size in Daphnia magna?

Our research
about us
D. magna, 02/8/22

welcome to the daphnia dads.

thanks for stopping by to learn about our research! follow along with our progress in the pictures below, or head to our research tab to hear our latest updates!

our process

In our experiment, we will be exposing Daphnia magna to synthetic estrogen, also known as ethynylestradiol (EE2), at similar concentrations to those found in local bodies of water. After 24-28 hours of exposure, the D. magna will be visualized under the EVOS microscope and their heart size will be measured using ImageJ.

Heart Size

ratio of heart cross-sectional area to body cross-sectional area

we hypothesize that...

As the concentration of 17α-ethynylestradiol (EE2) in the water increases, the ratio of heart cross-sectional area to cross-sectional area of Daphnia magna will also increase.
